Choose a hostname format for VVX phones

Prerequisites
  • Telephony > Plugin > All permission

Note: The setting described in this article only applies to the following Poly / Polycom VVX phones.
  • VVX 150, 250, 350 and 450 business IP phones
  • VVX 101, 201, 301, 311, 401, 411, 501 and 601 business media phones

To align with Poly VVX phone manufacturing processes and to allow for correct firmware updates, Genesys Cloud includes a setting on the Base Settings configuration page for certain VVX phones. This setting requires telephony administrators to select which host name format the VVX phones in their organization use based on the following conditions:

  • VVX phones manufactured before June 2022, use either the legacy host name format or the RFC 1035 host name format.
  • VVX phones manufactured after June 2022 only use the RFC 1035 host name format.

For more information, see the VVX Series Shipping Configuration (June 2022) article on HP’s support site.

As Genesys Cloud adds the new firmware version to the phone’s home provisioning system, administrators must investigate their VVX phones manufactured before June 2022 and determine which host name format those phones use.

  • If you have older VVX phones that use the legacy host name format and you want those phones to continue to use the legacy host name format, then you do not need to do anything. The legacy host name format is the default value of the new setting. Applying firmware versions 6.4.X or later does not change the phone’s host name format.
  • If you have older VVX phones that use the legacy host name format and you want to use the new format that conforms to RFC 1035, enable this new setting. Enabling the setting changes the host name format at the next phone provisioning event.
  • If you have newer VVX phones, the host name format is already in adherence with RFC 1035. You cannot apply the legacy host name format.

To configure the proper host name format:

  1. Click Admin.
  2. Under Telephony, click Phone Management.
  3. Click the Base Settings tab.
  4. Click the base settings for your VVX phones.
  5. Click the Network expander.
  6. Select the appropriate host name Format option:
    • To use the legacy host name format, select Use legacy format e.g. Polycom_<MacAddress>.
    • To use the RFC 1035 host name format, select Use RFC 1035 compliant format e.g. Polycom<MacAddress>.
  7. Click Save Base Settings.
