When creating a site under BYOC Premise, the Phone Edge Assignments settings are important because the phones assigned to your site will make calls using the Edges assigned to the site you specify with this setting. There are a number of scenarios that will determine the configuration that you choose. It’s also important to recognize that the Phone Edge Assignments settings are dynamic; meaning that you can change them as your scenario changes. More specifically, modifying the Phone Edge Assignments settings and saving will automatically trigger all phones assigned to the current site to be re-assigned and re-balanced.

Notes

As you look over the various scenarios, keep in mind that when you select the Use these Sites setting and specify a Primary site and a Secondary site, Genesys Cloud implements both a redundancy scheme and load balancing scheme to ensure the phones function properly.

More specifically, Genesys Cloud will randomly select an Edge from the primary site and designate it as the primary Edge. Genesys cloud will then randomly select an Edge in the secondary site as the secondary Edge.

Once Genesys Cloud chooses a primary Edge and a secondary Edge, it then registers the managed phones with both of those Edges. To spread out the load, Genesys Cloud randomizes each phone’s assignment of a primary and secondary Edge. For more information, see Phone redundancy and Edge redundancy.
